RemoteLock OpenEdge RG Deadbolt review

RemoteLock OpenEdge RG Deadbolt review

Smart locks with Wi-Fi capabilities have become commonplace in today’s connected home. The OpenEdge RG Deadbolt from RemoteLock is simple to install and control from anywhere. It works with a variety of vacation rental platforms and has a shaky relationship with August and Ring doorbells. However, unlike our Editors’ Choice, the August Smart Lock Pro + Connect, lacks third-party support and multi-protocol features.

Design and Features:

The OpenEdge RG is a complete lock assembly with a keypad escutcheon included. It has a standard 2-1/8 lockset hole and a 1-inch latch hole and fits doors with a thickness of 1-3/8 to 2 inches. Polished Brass, Rubbed Bronze, or Satin Nickel finishes are available for the keypad. The RemoteLock Vacation Lock may be controlled remotely using an Android or iOS app or a web console on a PC.

The mobile app allows you to lock and unlock doors as well as view lock activity such as when and by whom a lock was engaged, as well as whether the lock was opened or closed manually using the thumbscrew. The console contains a colorful dashboard panel with a graph indicating lock, unlock, and access denied events as well as the lock’s battery condition. The RemoteLock OpenEdge does not allow voice commands from Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

Installation and Performance:

The OpenEdge RG lock is simple to set up and adheres to my schedule without fail. Each keypad press was followed by an illuminated key and a sufficiently loud sound. I was always notified by email and SMS that the lock had been locked or unlocked by a certain user and at what time. The app and the web console were both used to quickly perform lock and unlock commands.

Pros:

  • It’s simple to set up.
  • Control using a mobile app and a web browser.
  • Keypad with a responsive design.
  • August and Ring devices are compatible.
  • Connects to a variety of vacation rental platforms.

Cons:

  • A cloud subscription is required.
  • Only for internal doors.
  • There is no support for Alexa, Google Assistant, or HomeKit.
  • App features are limited.

Conclusion:

For homeowners, business owners, and landlords, the RemoteLock OpenEdge RG Deadbolt is a great option. It’s simple to set up and performs admirably in our tests, and it’s compatible with a variety of major vacation rental sites. It lacks the same level of third-party support as the August Smart Lock Pro + Connects offers.
