Linksys Dual-Band Mesh WIFI 6 Router (MR96000) Review
The Linksys MR9600 is the company’s top-of-the-line Wi-Fi 6 router. It features the most up-to-date 802.11ax technology to give fast 5GHz throughput and reliable file transfer speeds. It also has mesh technology, which allows you to quickly set up another compatible Linksys mesh router as a node and establish a mesh network.
Design and Features:
On the 2.4GHz band, the MR9600 is a dual-band router capable of theoretical rates of up to 1,147 megabits per second (Mbps). It has a 1.8GHz quad-core CPU, 512 megabytes (MB) of SDRAM, and another 512 megabytes (MB) of flash memory. It supports OFDMA and uses the newest 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 technology (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access). The Linksys MR9600, like its sister, lacks built-in or included anti-malware software, and parental controls are restricted
It does support Alexa commands, which allow you to use your voice to perform things like switch on guest networking and pause internet access for specific clients. It opens to a Router screen rather than a Dashboard screen. The Linksys MR9600 is a good entry-level Wi-Fi router, but it doesn’t have the same feature set as our Editors’ Choice, the TP-Link Archer AX11000. It’s not perfect, but it’s not bad.
Setup:
The Linksys MR9600 can only be set up using the company’s phone and tablet apps. Because the software can only be used in portrait mode, it’s most likely designed for phone use. It took 9 minutes to move from a sealed box to a fully functional network.
Installation and Performance:
The Linksys MR9600 is a dual-band Mesh Wi-Fi 6 router with close proximity speeds of up to 111 Mbps, but not quite as fast in the 30 foot range test. Its 840 Mbps score was among the best we’ve observed, narrowly surpassing the AX11000 and RAX120 by a few points and beating the RT-AX88U by 58 Mbps. Range performance suffered as a result of the lower score of 38 Mbps, which was much lower than the rest of the field.
The Linksys MR9600 Dual-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6 Router (MR9600) provided lightning-fast file transfer speeds. In our throughput tests, it outperformed the AX11000, RAX120, and RT-AAX88U with a write speed of 73 MBps. Throughout our test home, Ekahau heat maps display the router’s 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signal strength. Surprisingly, the 5 GHz coverage of the mesh router was greater than the 2. 4 GHz coverage.
Pros:
- Installation is simple.
- capable of meshing .
- Exceptional close-range throughput .
- File transfer performance that is quick.
Cons:
- Costly and unprotected against viruses
- There is no multi-gigabit LAN.
- There is no link aggregation.
- Long-range performance is mediocre.
- There is no multi-gigabit LAN.
Conclusion:
The Linksys Max Stream MR9600 outperforms 802.11ac gear in terms of throughput and performs admirably over long distances. Its range can be extended by using its unique ability to form a mesh network with other Linksys networking devices. When compared to the Netgear Nighthawk AX8 (RAX80) or the somewhat less expensive TP-Link Archer AX6000, the price is quite high.
